VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Looks like we're doing a basement reno in the new year so I'm thinking it might be a good time to also look into having an iso booth built. I've mapped out a 5' X 6' space in one of the room's corners and would like to include a window and some ventilation. Any tips on materials to use, websites to visit or design plans to follow would be a huge help! Smile

Some people swear by booths others really don't like them. You probably know all that already.

One of the first things to understand is what are the noise levels in your basement such as foot falls, water running through pipes, machinery and the like.

Ventilation is another consideration that most people under estimate. Tying into a homes existing system can often be inadequate, since the home has its own set of general needs and the booth has its own. In the booth I'm building now for Marc Cashman, it was decided rather quickly that it was going to need it's own AC system.

The two most important things are isolation and treatment of the room. This requires a lot of material. Generally in the form of drywall and insulation.

Posting a picture of the area will greatly help in determining what you need, or at least where to start. You can PM me if you like.

I'd certainly listen to Mike - he helped me a great deal.

My two cents; can you live without a window in there? Really necessary? I've built 6 or 7 booths over the years and I've almost always had problems with reflections whenever I've used glass. Some of audio that comes in here to be mixed has often been recorded in a small booth with a glass window, and I can spot it every time - ofen there's quite a nasty resonance, that just sounds, well, glassy!
