I hope you all don't mind this posting...this is so non VO related but here goes...one of my kids has been doing the garage band thing for a couple of years and I didn't really think much of it...then suddenly they started doing some stuff that really, no I mean REALLY, surprised me...these kids are pretty damn good!! They normally write and play their own stuff but this is a video they put together of a cover song by MGMT, KIDS...I must say I like their version much better but I just may be partial.

Take a peak/listen to:

If interested you can also check out some other tunes on at http://www.myspace.com/auburnskiesmusic

Thanks for allowing me to share!

Jeff,

I'm usually VERY critical of covers, but holy c#%p!!!

That's an awesome version of what was already a pretty darn good song.

I took a listen to their other stuff and they've got a really good sound. Whoever's doing their production and final mix has a really good ear. A lot of the new small band and indie stuff sounds really muddy and over-produced, but most of their tracks sound really clean and true.

You may be partial, but your kid's band is GOOD!

Good on the kids!!!

Sounds great. Which kid is yours? Just curious. I wish them luck and hope they keep at it.

Thanks for listening and your comments. My favorites are Daydreams and Minutes Away. Nate writes most of their stuff and is the first singer in Daydreams so that partiality thing may influence why I like that one so well. Trying to be impartial is not easy when its your child and reading your feedback is greatly appreciated. (Chrissy, if you go to http://www.myspace.com/auburnskiesmusic Nate is the one on the far right). They have been played on the local radio 3 times, they have "fans" all over the country...someone told them they heard them at a mall in Florida. They were asked to be the warm up band for Honor Society in Lawrence (KU), Kansas. My wife and I are now wondering, anticipating what to do next if anything. The kids range in age from 15 to 17 and some like mine are in their senior year of HS. The parents have been rallying to keep them together and hard not to factor when considering colleges. There is so much talent in the world and the odds of "making it" are extremely remote...but my gut says there is something there. I am thinking that it may be prudent to get some good reputable help. Anyone had any experience with managers? This might seem premature. Is this crazy?

I don't think it's premature at all. It's best to check things out so you can be prepared. These young men are going to need help to deal with the various agents etc.. I'm sure you don't want them to be taken advantage of.

Hey Jeff,

Wow! What these guys need is record deal and savvy producer. Your instincts are right on the money...emphasis on the money. There is something there.
I was hooked from the get go. They have a great chemistry that is rare in the music business. Today's kids with all there modern vernacular will love em (spoken like the grandfather that I am).

I do have a friend that may be able to help. He has worked on a major level, producing and engineering. He even won a Grammy for some of his work. Just last week I ran into one of his former band members.

Send me a PM if you have an interest. I will try to clear a path to contact him.

Jeff...I don't know the original song, but I think your guys really did a great job! Good for them!
Best of luck to all of you!
