VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Hi Guys,
I have had some good success with Voice123 this year.
Voices.com not so much. As much as I wasn't so keen on the ranking system at V123 I think it works well now. Voices.com I didn't know whether I was submitting at #100 (i.e. don't bother) or #1.
I think V123 is the best for real work, although yes, there is a lot of rubbish there as well, but if you're starting off maybe you would do it for the reel.

I got a direct lead a few days ago. The guy found me by searching "Australian ISDN" - so make sure you include keywords in your descriptions like "character specialist" or whatever.

btw I met a lady last night who is on a site called Boldago or something.
Never heard of that one. Anyone on it?

Bodalgo = meh. no better or worse than the other P2P sites, though they have a more European clientelle.

Thanks Jeff. Never heard of it until yesterday. Will check it out.
Back to the topic used to get some work out of vodirectory, but now virtually no auditions, it seems like the site is just one giant advertisement for hundreds of competing talents.

I ran across ozvoxaudio.com today. Anyone had any dealings with this site?

Don't really know what that site is all about.
I would guess the majority of their clients would be Australian, so most of the work would be Australian.

I know a guy listed on the site, I'll ask him what he thinks and post a response.

Its been a while since I searched "voiceover" on google.
There are so many new "copycats" out there its becoming like the acting/modelling scams. i.e. "Hollywood agents are searching for talent join our site" etc.

I don't know the stats but I'm guessing Voices and v123 control most of the market. Maybe Bodalgo is the new guy on the block.

What worries me more is sites saying "$50 for 30 sec commercial, we don't care where it's played" provoiceusa or something like that - I thought rates were bad enough already!

Just contacted a friend on the site, he said he had some work from it, so it is a legit site. He's Australian though, so not sure whether there is much non-Australian accented work.

firstly I've gone off voices.com. I knopw Steph works hard and I must say that the podcasts and articles are fantastic, a really good resourse for everyone, but the usability of the site is just too finiky for me. I haven't won a job on there for ages and I find V123 much easier and user-friendly to use. Also, I win jobs on there much more and there more opportunites for UK voices. I have just been in contact with voices.com letting them know that I won't be rennewing my subscription.

As for Bodalgo, I am a member and seem to be getting contacted quite a lot by clients on there. The have lots of jobs for US and English voices too.

Hi Thomas,

Just an fyi... on voices.com, you can find out if you're #1 or #100 to audition. You have to click on the "Overview" tab of the Job Posting. You can also see if they've selected someone already, so that if they have, you know not to bother auditioning.

That's great information Caryn.
I'm with Darren though, I let my membership lapse as the membership price is the same and jobs not as frequent as V123.
I think Voices.com is a great site for people starting off though, they have great articles and podcasts, a lot of info.
I'm at the stage of "show me the money" though!

Another great p2p site not mentioned is Voiceovers.co.uk
You have to be accepted though, so you have to be persistent, but they get good jobs and I have had a few of them.

Here's something else I can share - I met a voice artist starting out and she joined commercialvoices.com. She is still waiting for an audition. Did anyone else ever join that one? Also, I sometimes find the V123 server or site very slow. Does anyone ever else find that, or is that just me? I am U-Verse here which is great for tv, but not so great for internet

I pay to play on both voices.com and voice123.com. To me, they're both great starting points, I guess, but I've found them to be helpful even now. I used to get more business from v123, but lately, voices.com has been better for me. It varies, and you just never know.

I'm with voiceovers.co.uk... they are great to work with. Really wonderful people.

I think I was invited to join CommercialVoiceovers some time back. I decided not to, though the gentleman who runs it is a very nice man.

Commercial Voices is run by Rick Gordon out of Canada.
He has a distinct business model which works well for some and not at all for others.
I had a good run with some decent work while I was there. A good number of auditions sent out by Rick and a few nice jobs.

He is not fond of people discussing his business on this board, though.

I think the golden rule for all these sites is "it depends" and "sometimes"!!

Hi darren, I think you submit your demo via site and they'll review it and get back to you. I was persistent and got in. If you are accepted they might ask you to pay or not if they really need your type of voice.

It's a site that does very well in the UK and the jobs are good.
I know a creative in London who uses it a lot.
