Hi, glad to be part of this board. I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out a ballpark rate for a project I was given:
A past client of mine wants me to record an out-going message for a telephone campaign. I don't have script yet, but I am to record a message that will go out to "the masses", basically the whole state.
Is this project considered an IVR project? For the rate, do I charge by how many words I record, or how many people my message will reach? It seems quite different from a traditional broadcast (TV/radio) commercial rate.
Any guidance would be very much appreciated!

This doesn't sound like traditional IVR. This is a phone sales message (I'm going to guess political?) and as such is much more a commercial than anything else. I'd go for your going statewide radio commercial rate which is something like $200 in small population states and up to $600 in big states.
If it's political, absolutely require payment in advance.

Hi B,
Thanks for your reply. This does seem to be more of a sales message as it is for a car insurance company. Again, no script, so I can't confirm, but I'm going to guess that it is. I was thinking I was going to charge a cheaper rate than my normal :30 radio rate since it's not "broadcast" over the airwaves, but after reading your email, I may have to rethink this one. Thanks so much for your feedback!
