J.D. Salinger, who penned the classic Catcher in the Rye, sadly, has been visited by the grim reaper.

There's an article in today's Manchester Union Leader about the Cornish (NH) locals who all knew where Salinger lived, but kept mum when Dartmouth students came hunting for Salinger to get an interview for their English paper or reporters from across the country came intent on getting that big one on one interview. He was just a quiet man who lived down the street and they respected his privacy. Just another reason to love NH. Smile

Here in South Berwick, we have Robert Persig, the author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

I know his wife.
And no one here will tell you where they live, either.
That "Live Free" stuff works pretty well over the river, too.

The Onion article was quite to the point....J.D. Salinger who? It's been 45 years since he'd released anything

I don't remember reading Catcher in high school but read it about ten years ago, wondering why it was such a big deal, then or today. The cursing and such was novel back then, but it just wasn't satisfying in the end. I remember liking Franny and Zooey in my school days, but I couldn't tell you why all these years later.

Rest in peace, and may we find something in your safe to truly enhance your reputation once again.
