Hello VO-BBer's!
Just wanted to make a quick intro and say hello, joined the VO-BB about two months ago.
1. I am currently active duty Navy, so VO is a part time job until I can retire in 2016!
2. I've been working with Connie Terwilliger as a personal coach and Bill Campbell at ASAP audio as my engineer.
3. I'm here to learn, improve, and most of all have fun.
4. I hope to meet some of you at Voice 2010 in June.
I would like some help in a possible VO niche. I currently possess a Top Secret security clearance and was wondering if anyone has ever had the same and utilized it for companies and government agencies who require this for a VO presentation? Not sure of the best way to exploit this other than cold calling. Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Hello Joe!
Welcome to the VO-BB. I believe Frank Frederick (who's been a little scarce of late because he's in the middle of a relocation) has had a similar security clearance, maybe still does. _________________ Be well,

Philip Banks has narrated some aviation tutorials that should have made him eligible for top security clearance. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Deirdre's correct. It's worth pointing out that my voice was chosen and then the very modest clearance required was obtained so it would be jumping the gun for a person to think they have an "in" with someone or something just because of a security clearance or knowledge in a particular area. |

I once narrated an orientation video that was required viewing for subcontractors to obtain security clearance to work at a Sikorsky helicopter facility, but I didn't have to have any special clearance to do the video. However, the experience suggests to me that one way to exploit your clearance is to cultivate the contacts you have already made within the military. You may even get to do some VO work for them before 2016. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to use any of it on your demo. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I'm under contract now to narrate a gov't project that I can't name, 'cause I signed a NDA (non-disclosure agreement) not to mention it.
That was all they asked for...'not sure if it's highly classified or not, but you can bet I'm not going to talk about it, if I want to get paid.
Maybe that's all they're seeking anymore.

Somehow I doubt it. Some things start off as being more than confidential. It can't be helped (daily presidential briefings, for example).
If it's small stuff, a client might sponsor you for access, but probably not for anything more than "confidential" or FOUO "For Official Use Only" (which is still unclassified). The cost is too high, especially if an SSBI (Single Source Background Investigation) is involved. More so with CI (Counter Intel) and lifestyle polygraphs.
The length of time and cost to gain these credentials on the billet preclude most folks. Most those who work in that niche work in the industry, and those getting paid are not in active service (it creates an OCI, hence some of the rules). You'll find most folks in that industry are contractors of one sort or another.
GCN had a good article on it about 18 - 24 months ago. Might still be on their website. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser
