Hi!
I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 64 and it doesn't seem to be compatible with the Mbox.
I was using adobe audition 3.0 and the ASIO driver doesn't work, the mbox is not recognised as an audio device.
I couldn't find a solution for it on line, it just looks like pro tools is not compatible yet; so I'm looking at replacing the Mbox by something similar but not digidesign.

I'm thinking of this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Saff6USB/

do you think it's a good option? or do you suggest something else?

thanks!!

Claire.

Claire,

What you'll want to concentrate on is an audio interface that has 64-bit drivers as well as Win7 support. I know M-Audio has a few. I'm sure there are a few others.

I've never been happy with M-Audio...

...but now I use the Fast Track Ultra which has good converters and very good preamps (same as in their Profile Firewire interfaces, btw...made by THAT company - guys that used to design dbx preamps, and the converters are made by the same company as the Echo Audio converters - the specs are just ever-so slighty inferior). My new corporate demo is just straight into the box. Rock-solid drivers for Win Vista 64 and I've heard that it's solid on 7 as well. I swtiched to this from Echo interfaces because their Vista drivers (and fixes) simply do not work for many people.

The FTU is USB 2.0 while the Focusrite is USB 1.1...which can be fine for straight recording, but I'd prefer to just go 2.0.

I looked at the fast track but it seems that all the M-audio products need the digidesign ASIO driver too which is whatwon't work with windows 7.
I may just go to a specialised shop with the computer and see what they say.
I'm sure there will be a fix in the next few months, but I need it now, grr...
Thanks for the suggeston though, they may say in the shop that it'll work.

Claire, sorry you ran into this.
It's been a real problem for many, since in my research it's difficult to find a Windows 7 machine that is 32 bit anymore. In fact, it inspired me to write an article about it in February's Voice-Over Insider.

I did find a link that will help guide you:
http://www.rainrecording.com/windows-watch/

Good luck, it's an awkward time for computers and pro-audio, just like when Vista came out, and Mac OS Leopard (and so forth).

Claire, all the best to you and the FTU...and please don't hate me if it doesn't work! Smile All I can say is I've recommended it to a couple other talents and they've used it successfully. Good luck!

I would never hate you, Lance! don't worry! If it doesn't work, I can always return it. But since the correct driver exists, there's no reason why it wouldn't work. Smile
I'll find out Monday or Tuesday when I receive it, I'll let you know.

WOOOTTT!!!
Not only is it working, but it is working BETTER than the Mbox with WinXP!
I always had a very faint whining noise that I couldn't get rid of, and it's now entirely gone! My sound is totally clean! Sarcastic
Thank you!!!
I'll never recommend MBox again, it's the Fast Track Ultra that rocks!

Excellent! Glad to hear it.

In case this happens to you (and it does to some like me) the control panel might not be accessible on your monitor, even though it comes up on the taskbar. Just click on the taskbar icon, click "Move" and then press an arrow key on your keyboard and drag the control panel back into the center of the screen. For some reason it "disappears" into a whacky ninth dimension on the periphery of the screen.

Other than that, it should be good to go. M-Audio came up with a winner with the Fast Track Ultra. Enjoy!

On the M audio site, here, you can pick your USB device and find the correct driver for your operating system. And there are some for all the versions of Windows 7 Smile (at least for the fast track ultra) :

Thanks for the info Claire! I'm about to get down from the PC/Mac fence I've been on for months. I've been suffering from paralysis by analysis Rolls Eyes ...the more research I did the stupider I got....time to just go buy what I want now that I know what all the "extras" will be.
