It's a long, sorted story and this is the shortened version... It's always a good Friday when you know your Monday is pretty much booked, until you catch the latest Flu bug on Saturday when you take your kid to Tiny Town.

If you have ever eaten too much wasabe or strong horseradish, you'll appreciate this.

15 minutes before my first session, like popcorn I popped three (3) raw cloves of garlic into my mouth and started chomping down. First few bites were fine, then all of sudden I felt what must have been fire from the pits of hell. My eyes watered up and started tearing all over the place. My tongue, burning profusely, felt like it was blistering up. At this point I figured I better lay down on the floor in case I pass out. While on my back, I could see the clock slowly ticking towards the top of the hour and all I could think was, "Oh sh*T, what have I done!? I just killed a promo session!? I'm so fired!" I never expected to be laid out on the floor trying to breath.

I could hear the frantic pace of a two year old running as fast as possible from the living room down the hallway into the kitchen. She arrived, leaned over me, started crying and promptly proclaimed, "Daddy, you got a boo boo in the mouth? I going to get a Dora Band Aid and a Boots Band Aid and put in your mouth." She took off down the hallway.

The tears from my eyes were draining into my ears for another three minutes then I felt all the pressure inside my head shift. I heard this wheezing sound in my ears, then they popped. I got up, made my way to the bathroom for the customary nasal cleanse (Neti pot) and with three minutes to spare - and to my immense surprise - it sounded like I wasn't sick.

Stuffed Nose and you have a session? Try ONE clove of Garlic. If you're brave, try TWO. If you're stupid, eat THREE.

Of course, I'm writing this at 1:36am EST. My wife didn't exactly want my "garlic breath" sleeping next to her. And brushing your teeth / mouthwash, doesn't work.

Kevin

Calling Bob Souer...someone mentioned Olive Garden. We have one several miles away. Sounds like a good excuse for good food and friends to me. All the better if it clears the sinuses and the head. I'm running low on Kleenex. Garlic to the rescue. Kevin, I'll try not to OD.

Living within 30mi from the Mexican border we have a lot of spicy peppery food nearby too. It makes my eyes water and opens the sinuses, but it hits the gut hard. I'll stick to garlic for now.

(Edited for typo)

Thanks for the advice. I'm certain I would've eaten 3.
Hope you got the band aid off your tongue before the session!

Holy Cow! Wow. That's intense man.

We had sushi Sunday night. There was a big clump of wasabi left over after it was all gone. Of course I just had to show off and pop it all in my mouth. It cleared out the nasal passages and made my eyes water for a few minutes but nothing like your garlic experience.

Holy Moly Kevin. I love garlic, but I don't know if I could ever eat one clove whole like that. Yowzers. You are a super hero!

A funny and helpful story kevin.
I've pretty much fixed my sinus issues this winter by using neti pot twice a day and sleeping with a humidifier.

I can't believe you had the nerve to try this 15 minutes before your session! So glad it worked out, though!

(I think you may have misquoted your 2 year old. I'm guessing she really said "...boo boo in your mouf.")

Kevin,

What a great story, though the price you paid in the end might have been too high. I'm so glad you recovered in time to do your session. As for Olive Garden, any number of folks here can attest that I eat at all kind of places, including Olive Garden.

Kevin, I believe downing three garlic cloves like that makes you an honorary Italian. Wink
