I'm noticing a definite drop in recording levels with my Shure SM27 condenser mic. I'm noticing I have to stand closer to the mic than before, and I even have to turn up the gain on my M-Audio Firewire interface. I'm recording in Garageband. The problem when I do this is that I increase the amount of popping, or introduce more background noise into the recording. What could be causing this problem? COuld either the mic or interface be damaged or defective in some way? |

Do you have access to something else to plug the mic into? If the problem is there too, then it's the mic.
Can you plug another mic into the interface? If the problem persists, it's the interface.
Once we narrow down the offending piece of gear, we can figure out what to do next. |
