The close date for the new home is set...just weeks away. I am trying to identify the best place for the new studio. If I had my way there would be several places in the new home I would love to set up shop. Unfortunately, I am out numbered! I have a finished and carpeted walk in closet that might just work. Unfortunately, the dimensions are probably not ideal. The ceiling conforms to the roof line in that it is triangle shape 7 ft high at the high point, 8'8" wide, 11' long. I would share pictures but just switched over to a new hosting service and working through the ftp issues. Any help posting the pics would be great. This area is about the farthest away from the internal noises but outside noise may be an issue. I have always wanted to purchase a Whisper Room but listening to others...that option doesn't appear to be the best route. Perhaps there may be a way to make this area work. Any ideas, thoughts and/or suggestions is most appreciated. |

Have you tried Photo Bucket for picture hosting?
Also, I would suggest searching the forums here if you haven't already.
I have a Whisper Room and it has worked out well, but only after getting the acoustics correctly configured. |

Photobucket.com
It's free.
How high is the ceiling at the low point?
You might have some outside noise problems, mostly through the ceiling. You might be able to mitigate much of high frequencies with a second layer of drywall or "Quietrock". Then sealing around the gap at bottom of the wall with a product like sikaflex 1a (sealing both sides of the wall is strongly suggested).
Looking forward to the pictures. _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong. |

This room is really unpredictable, I would need to stand in there to listen to it. How does it sound to you?
From what I see you're going to need bass trapping along the corners of the floor and standing corners, and the walls will need treatment with at least 90% coverage.
Any other options? _________________ The Blog:

Mike, thanks for the comments...I was looking for convenience and ease but with so many angles. the limited head room, and noise issues it may make more sense to build in the unfinished part of the basement...this may prove to be the better option albeit more expensive. |

It depends on what's down there, and how big you want it.
No better time than now to build something. Labor is cheap and so is material. _________________ The Blog:
