So that's what the smell was... old thread. Gotta remember to check the 'use before date' before reading. _________________ "Bailey"

Quote: | I can't recall one of our coaches inviting everyone from an introductory course to our MasterClass. |
The key word here is "everyone".
Perhaps "Everyone" was an overstatement.
Let me amend my statement:
Many, many people get that email.
Completely unqualified people are receiving invitations to a VO Master Class.
Perhaps your coaches don't tender those invitations, but SOMEONE does.
I have met or corresponded with scores of people who either attended or were invited to attend the Vermont Chalet VO Shindig weekend after a single exploratory class.
I'm not blowing smoke in my previous posts. I have no reason to. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Actually - I disagree. I don't believe that the key word is 'everyone'. The entire program, which I recommended to several VO talents and led to me coming on staff, is focused on teaching the right people who have the right basic vocal qualities how to get started in this industry. We help them get that start with a sense of direction and someone to walk with them as they progress. |

Does that count? _________________ - Peter

Actually - speaking of the 'Schools of broadcasting' you might be surprised at how many graduates contact us, only to be informed they don't have a solid grasp on the basics and are *not* ready to move forward. Or perhaps you wouldn't be surprised.
I certainly know the people I've worked with in radio who attended those programs never seemed to know how to use the equipment or, often even worse, thought they did. |

I was invited to join a Master Class after an over-the-phone eval. I declined due to the MASSIVE cost, but I didn't even go to a workshop... |

Could someone stick a fork in this thread?... I believe it's done. Or start lining up for a food fight... actually.

I attended a Such A Voice class with Heather Costa as the instructor. Heather was knowledgeable and well-spoken, although she was giving info from a syllabus. However, I looked Heather up prior to the class and her website was ample evidence that she was a qualified instructor.
For an introductory VO class, it was fine. And at only $25 it was a good value.
Afterwards, I received my evaluation by email:
Quote: | "Craig has a wonderful, endearing voice that is articulate, genuine and records well. He sounds great behind the mic - a definite natural. His acting instincts and inflections are believable and he sounds conversational throughout. He should definitely continue pursuing this!" | She followed up with a phone call to discuss the Masterclass, but after hearing about the cost involved I declined. No offense to Heather, but the cost and what was involved just didn't jive with what I have been told by other professionals in the business.
There were about 14 attendees in the same class, none of which had any prior VO experience, and from my observation there were maybe 3 or 4 who I felt might do well with more coaching and experience.
But after hearing Heather's pitch on the Masterclass, it made me wonder how many of the other students in the class received the same phone call. Even of those I thought had potential, I certainly didn't think any of them were ready for a "Masterclass."
I have no doubts that Such A Voice runs a reputable business and that they do have clients who are satisfied with the end result of their coaching and product.
But the Masterclass just wasn't for me.
However, I do recommend their introductory class for beginners because it is informative.
And that's all I have to say about that. _________________ Publisher: Voice Actors in the News
