Avoid the Manhasset M48
It shakes.
It rattles.
It will roll.

Even gaffer's tape won't help this thing.

Hmmm...we used to love those Manhasset stands. We never had a problem with them.

I've got a dozen of them. Never a problem. In the studio or on stage. Sorry yours was a lemon.

I have one of these wood stands from On Stage at home right now, picked it up at NAMM, happy to sell if someone would like it. It's made very nicely.

I've used the Manhassets in my studio for years. Throw a carpet sample square on there (they're real close to the same size) to cut the ringing noise of your voice on the metal plate and they're ideal. So easy to adjust, just put your foot on the base and raise or drop as desired.

You definitely have a rare lemon, Kevin.

Let me second that. Nice thing about the model Philip has is that it's very collapsible and can be readily used on a desk.

They also had a version similar to the picture Mike has in his post (whether or not they still manufacturer them is another story... I got a pair in mahogany to match the decor).

Not cheap, but well worth it.

Wow. Mine is rock solid, though the wooden gigantor stand looks very cool and able to handle Artamène (all 2.1 million words).

Good luck with that, Anthony. I've "adjusted" more than one right off the stand section thinking I could get a little more height out of them. Smile
