Regarding a recent casting call for Rheem:

First he tried to keep rates high for us, then he tried to keep the JOB for us. Forget it, there's still bottom-feeders chewing your feet off.

Wow. Talk about getting Rheemed. At least they were honest to you about this. I think we VOs need to be more like a "Family" regarding these bottom feeders. You, know, "Family" that look after each other. The type that wear dark pinstriped suits and are seen talking standing around the trunk of large black cars on Coney Island in the middle of February. I know people, I think these people should maybe have a talk with these bottom feeders and make sure their kneecaps are aligned properly. These little rats are taking food off the tables of our family, I think this needs to be addressed with a bit, shall we say, more "muscle".

I did the audition for our man in Atlanta, but sadly(?) I didn't get an offer to to it much cheaper from anyone. I would have liked that because it would give me a chance to use all those words my ex-Navy wife has been teaching me.

Man....that's just nuts.
I'm usually able to keep a positive outlook about this biz, but after reading accounts like this, I can't help but feel just a tad afraid that the bottom-feeders will end up eventually flooding the industry so much that *nobody* will pay professional rates any more. I know many of you can testify that there are folks still willing to pay properly, but it's hard to shake the concern.

This is what the world economy is like. It doesn't "Raise all boats" it lowers the lake.
Why should Rheem pay 3k when someone would gladly do it for 1k.
Would you pay 300 dollars for a chair if you could get it for 100? How far do people drive to save .03 on a gallon of fuel?
I stick to my rate sheet, but that doesn't get me to far on oDesk and Guru most weeks. I'm eliminated right away due to my cost. There loss I figure. 
I hope that Rheem will figure out that the less expensive talent isn't worth it.

But what if they are? What if they've found an outstanding voiceover artist who is just as professional in every other way, but they charge a lot less than everyone else? I think that's my underlying concern about stuff like this: really talented people deciding that they can easily get more gigs by cutting their rates. In that case, less expensive doesn't necessarily mean lower quality, so why should the client pay more? What incentive do they have to shell out more money if that extra money isn't going to get them a product of greater value?
