I've been using Filezilla for several months and it has been wonderful. A few weeks ago however, it ceased being able to show my folders and files properly. I can only see some of my folders so I can't navigate to all the files I want to transfer. I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and that didn't help. I tried another program (CoreFTP) and had the same problem. I can't find any settings to hide or unhide folders. The Filezilla user forums have not been any help. Just wondered if anybody might know how to remedy this?

I can't specifically answer your question, Mary, but I will say that since I started using Dropbox many months ago, I haven't even used my ftp program for uploading files to clients. Dropbox has been great. If you want to check it out and end up signing up (free), we can each get some extra space with this link..

You didn't specify your OS. I use Filezilla to upload several hundred megs of audio a day across three machines and have not run into this particular problem. But, if I had, I would do this:

Back up your important data.

If you've uninstalled and reinstalled, there is a configuration file still on the system that's not getting deleted in the process.

Start by going through Preferences (or Settings) and looking for anything indicative of display that might be off when it should be on. I did a quick pass before writing this and didn't see anything obvious, but it's worth a look since no two systems are identical.

If you're running Windows, uninstall FileZilla and run CCleaner to wipe both bloat files and bad registry entries. Run it twice on both settings. Reinstall FileZilla.

If you're running Apple, uninstall (drag the application icon to the trash and empty the trash), run Applejack, and reinstall.

I'll doubt you're running Linux, so I'll skip that procedure... :-)

CCleaner and Applejack are free downloads. I use the both in the field on service calls and on my machines.

Could be a server issue. Contact your customer support rep if you aren't running your own server.

Thank-you Andrew - I tried all that to no avail. And Eddie, what server are you referring to? This is happening locally, without even being logged in to my Bluehost server. The Filezilla help forum people said the same thing - that since it was happening with CoreFTP also it was a server issue.

Andrew solved this problem for me with such a simple solution. He asked for a screen shot and I sent him one showing Filezilla's interpretation of my sub-folder structure within my Pictures folder, and one showing Windows' interpreation. And Andrew immediately noticed that there are actually two "Mary" folders on my computer. I don't even know how that happened. Some programs on my computer are apparently writing to one and some to the other.

All I had to do was copy the correct file path into Filezilla's Local Site browser bar and all my folders displayed properly.

Thank-you Andrew Flaspots!!! You rock.
