Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive camera for rehearsing
on-camera auditions, and possibly You Tube videos?
Thanks |

Kodak zi6
Takes decent videos...easy to edit and post online. Plugs straight into your USB port. Cheap, small- I carry mine everywhere with me.
I also hear good things about the Flip Mino. _________________ Threadjackers local 420

It depends on how much you willing to spend.
But you really can't go wrong with any of the great consumer digital video cameras theses days. The one big thing I found out with a friends video camera was that there was no way to plug in an external mic on his. So if you're going to be looking for a camera make sure you have that option. Ease of use is another big consideration, you don't want to be fussing around with settings all the time.
After price and adaptability, it becomes six of one and half a dozed of another.
The Sony's seem nice and a Cannon have good imaging
I've seen a lot of film student use the Cannon VIXIA HV30 and HV40. I think you can use an external mic on these with an shoe adapter. _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong. |

the flip mino is GREAT! like kara, i have mine with me all the time. super easy. BUT, and this is a big but for on-camera auditions ... NO EXTERNAL AUDIO INPUT! if you don't want to gather your audio some other way (h2, et. al.) then sync it later in post, which for the uninitiated (and even the initiated most of the time) is a huge PITA, look for something you can plug a little lav. mic into. unless you can help it - go with the cord, rather than cordless. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Yeah- then that is not the zi6 either, no way to plug in.
I'd be curious if you do find something you can plug a mic into though! (that's cheap) Not that I need anything...I just like cool gear. _________________ Threadjackers local 420
