Hi!
I've just connected to a UK client and he only used one of my numbers that he dialed twice.
The sound was very good and he said that I'm paying for the second line for nothing.
What do you guys think? Do I really need two numbers? I've had clients before surprised that I had two numbers, but I thought I needed them. Now I've done a recording with only one, I'm wondering...

Technically you have two channels and not 2 lines. If the client wants an MPL2 128kbps connection they need to dial both channels. In the UK it is quite normal for both channles to have the same number which the caller simply dials once for channel 1 and a second time for channel 2. In the US the 2 channels may be 2 different numbers. There is no 3rd number. To have 5 numbers would be considered ridiculous unless you were some gear junkie trying to send 5.1 dolby surroundsound audio. I suppose for that you'd need 5.1 channels.

And for APTx ISDN, there are actually three numbers to dial. This seems to be rare, but I had a job last year with a production house that used APTx and I ended up having to bridge with Digifon.

ok, thanks. I think I'll keep both numbers, it's pretty cheap anyway and it works; I don't really want to take the risk to mess it up.

In the US, I'm pretty sure if you order ISDN service you're going to get 2 numbers. It's the way it's done here. And I'm quite sure, if you could, you would NOT want to drop one of the lines because then you couldn't connect L2 Mono 128, which is what just about every studio uses if they're not on an APTx codec.
