Hi
I've been asked to submit a bid for project, 30 min educational nonbroadcast in both English and spanish. I know how much a VO would cost for Spanish narration, but don't know what a going rate is for translating the script from English to spanish. Anybody out here have any advice?
thanks,

French is usually about the same rate as Spanish...anywhere from 17 to 25 cents per word...depending on the translator.....also you need to ask the translator whether they quote per SOURCE word (English) or TARGET language word (Spanish)
Melissa Ex probably has some insight. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

I charge $50/page - double-spaced, 12pt. Arial.
EDIT: Source pages.

Useful info -- I don't know if/when this project may happen, but this helps me plan a budget that isn't just a WAG (wild-arsed guess).
thanks to you two and the PMs I got about this. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I would try not to go less than 20 cents per word - it can get as high as 32 to 35 cents if the material is complex or specialized. Source words. It's easier because the client knows exactly what they're paying. Keep in mind that to say something in Spanish takes roughly 25% more words than to say the same thing in English so you'll want to figure that into your per word rate.
As in VO there are people willing to work for 6 or 7 cents per word. Usually they live in countries where the cost of living is really low. Translators have the same lowballer problems we do. |
