Hello you lovely people!

I'm preparing to record an updated demo currently with a local studio, and I've selected my ad copy and locked in a date.

So as to not repeat the sins of the past, I'd love some honest feedback on my current commercial demo, which can be found here:

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi, Kevin,

Quick impressions:
- nice voice, good voice 'age' in a highly-sought after age group
- likeable, relatable, pleasant

The Demo:
- Everything is WAY too long. Your entire demo should be NO MORE than 1:00 long with about 5-6 various clips on it. That means each clip should be about 10 seconds or so long instead of the 30 or more seconds your current ones are
- While it's okay to have one sample that's dry on your demo, don't open up with it. It sounds too amateurish.
- A couple of the spots sound too "read" to me. I'd like to hear some things that sound more like you're 'living them' rather than 'telling them'.
- Work with your producer on getting the right music. The music behind the cooking piece totally fought against the script and your delivery.

Ask yourself who you are before you go into the booth this time. By that, here's what I mean: I'd describe myself as pretty mellow, middle aged. I enjoy wine and puppy dogs and movies and walks with my wife. Those are the types of feelings that I'm best at conveying in spots. Thus I never audition for hard-sell commercials or spots where they want a 20-something. To be really good, you need to be really real. And we're all real at a few things, but not at everything. To my mind, after hearing your other stuff, I found it hard to believe you in the dance music scene spot. Just seemed like a forced fit to my ears.

Anyway, overall, you sound good. GL with the new demo and I hope this helps a bit.

Hi Scott! That's all fantastic advice, and the awesome thing is that you've given it to me in ways I can very clearly do something about.

I'll put what I can into effect straight away, and I'll definitely consider the notes you've given around delivery for the demo recording.

Thanks again! That's a huge help.
