Sad, but true.

Could someone well-versed in mixers, help me remember what I'm doing with this:

Mackie 1202. I'm running my phone patch output through Aux 2 channel. It's coming into my mixer on Line 2. For me to hear the client louder, I turn up the trim on Line 2. For them to hear me louder, I think what I need to do is turn up the Aux 2 volume on the same channel my mic is in--in this case Line 5. Is that correct? Also, does turning it up have any effect on my recording. I don't think doing that routes anything differently to the main outputs and I'm aware this question is probably brainless, but please see the title of this thread.

Thanks in advance.

Bill,

Yes, turn up the aux send on your microphone channel and no doing so doesn't change the level your microphone is feeding to the mains.

That's what I thought--thanks for confirming it. I appreciate the reply, Bob.

The 1202 was my first mixer. I loved it! Don't forget that in effect you have a 2-bus mixer. In other words, there is an ALT 3 and 4 bus on the mixer. When you press the MUTE button on any channel, you are sending the signal of that channel to the ALT 3 and 4 which can then in turn be assigned to the Control Room outputs.

When the MUTE/ALT 3-4 button is down and the channel panned hard left, you are sending it to ALT 3. With the channel panned hard right - to ALT 4. It's a great way to control what goes out the Control Room outputs and effectively gives you 4 total outputs on that thing.

This info might be overkill, but it's a powerful little beast that 1202 that's worth looking into the extra 2 busses it affords you.

Definitely worth knowing--Thanks Anthony. I do mute the Alt 3/4 on the phone patch channel so that the phone call itself isn't recorded. I think I tried panning it once, but wasn't happy with the results (whatever they were) so now I mute. But I didn't realize 3 and 4 could be separate outputs.

Wow, I didn't know that about the ALT 3 and 4 bus! That could come in handy...

Yeah, that little thing is a nice little flexible unit.
If I remember correctly, there are two outputs on the back called ALT 3/4. Whatever you "MUTE" will be sent out those outputs. Now, if you want to, say, have a separate control over what you monitor than what goes into your DAW, then you can hook up the control room outs to your monitors and the main output to your DAW. Then, when you MUTE, you can assign the ALT3-4 to the control room outputs.

It's a little switchblade a mixer that 1202. and SUPER quiet! Now i want mine back (it was stolen from my first studio.)

Anthony,

I have a 1202 that's gathering dust in my basement.
