I noticed this morning that the basement refrigerator was kinda -- not very cold.

Probably because I forgot to turn it back on after voiceovering YESTERDAY!

Donna...

Don't you hate that?

One recent day I'm thinking, "Damn! It's getting stuffy in this house." 90+ degrees out and humidity north of that. Getting more and more uncomfortable in the house. Dogs getting antsy. I'm getting irritable. Then BAM! - it hit me. I turned off the A/C during a recording session to kill the noise!!!

Ahhh...the things we sacrifice for this profession.

Boy, I have done that.

I have signs I put in all-too-obvious places that say FRIDGE or at Camp Cooper East, FRIDGE AND FURNACE.

I've taken to putting the sing ON the fridge here, but back at CCE, I'd put the sign right on the keyboard of this laptop so I couldn't miss it.

Leaving the fridge off overnight makes for soft ice cubes.

Which are pretty useless, when you think about it. Thanks for the chuckle this afternoon, Deirdre.

Never with the fridge but you can ask my wife about the freezing cold house and no hot water when I forget to turn on the furnace in the middle of the coldest snap we had last winter. Up side was found out how well insulated the house really is.

You definitely don't want to forget to re-start the AC in Texas.

Which is why I just couldn't resist trying it about a week ago.

Embarrassed

And then there was the time I forgot to re-start the washer...

I just turn my AC up a couple of degrees when it's time to record and that gives me about an hour without background rumble, then I turn it back down while I edit and such, and then go back to turn it up for another round of recording. My studio keeps bouncing back and forth between 78º and pleasant, and 86º and sauna-like. Hey, it's a living.

My DW doesn't think it's such a neat idea though. She's been script supervising my latest audio book and hates the heat, but the saint she is is hanging in there.

We have this refrigerator that always puts a "tick" on the line when the compressor starts up. I've been SO tempted to just turn the thing off, but haven't resorted to that yet.
