Bruce:
I remain in awe of your voice but the web site layout is just too much for me. I don't think it works at all.
The very thing that makes you personal web site sing (and what has been an inspiration to how I view web sites) is what's lacking in this layout: simplicity.
- I am not a big fan of dark backgrounds and white lettering for web pages
- The red boxes make it way busy looking.
- The demos should be seen over the Bruce Miles copy
- Even a lesser fan of all caps (even small caps) I do not think the eye absorbs it as well.
- I would use only the dem/rep graphic - that gets the message across best
Once the viewer gets to the audio they will of course be thrilled. But I'm not sure those who find you for the first time will be willing to spend time at the site with so much hitting them over the head when they open the page.
I hope this helps
Best always,

I'm with Peter.
There's no reason why this site should be more than a page. Simplify simplify!
+ You have a little about Bruce on the front, so nuke the About page. It ain't about you.
+ Music choices could be summed up. Do you really need to play them? (And they all played at once when I went there, BTW...) Is anyone going to hire you simply because you offer music samples?
+ Payment. Can prolly worry about that once they contact you. nuke it.
+ Contact. Don't make me click. Put your contact info on the front.
+ And since you've now conveniently narrowed the site down to a single page, you can get rid of the nav bar altogether.
+ I'd get rid of the right side cartoon and either expand the title out or use that box for your contact info. The ass/elephant cartoon is perfect and says enough. Don't need to beat a dead horse with a second one (especially something so outdated as women's suffrage).
+ In your blurb on the front page you talk about "Bruce", and then say "we". Is there more than one Bruce? Keep your person perspectives constant.
My 2 cents which I'm happy to sell for a dollar. _________________ Jeff

"All Parties Welcomed! All Issues Welcomed!"
Wow, really? I can't do this. I don't care how much they wanted to pay me, I'm not doing VO for a candidate or cause I can't actually support. On the other hand, for a candidate or cause I do support I am willing to give a big discount (or even do it pro bono). _________________ Teacher, Voice Actor, Balloon Twister, Tuvan Throat Singer (I know... weird, right?) |

I've noticed that seems to be a difference radio people have from those who come from an acting background. On-air personalities are accustomed to being behind the mic as themselves; actors are accustomed to playing a character who may or may not hold the same beliefs. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

In a sense we're like the sign printers who make the yard and street signs for politicians each campaign season. I'm sure some of the will only print for politicians from just one party, but I'll bet most are thinking, why cut my potential income in half? If I make nice signs for everyone they'll keep coming back for more!

I tend to voice spots for one party- the one I agree most with, for two reasons. 1. I mostly agree with their views, and secondly- because I do political spots all across the country, I don't want to end up voicing for a red senate candidate and a blue congressional candidate in the same general vicinity.
I love political spots- having spent many years as a political reporter and a few years as a gubernatorial and presidential flack...plus up here in NH- (the first in the nation state) politics is a blood sport. _________________ Moe Egan

Hah. I have a 75-mile one-way commute to work, so I've spent a lot of time listening to the radio in my car or on my motorcycle (Zune with small headphones ftw).
Since I wanted to be in VO, I always listened to commercials and such with VO in it carefully- and I often wondered about political ads I heard; specifically, whether the person voicing the spot actually believed it or not. I think I asked myself that more often if it was an ad leaning against an issue or candidate I supported!
Now that I'm potentially going to have to answer the question- I'd be willing to take political VO spots, even for issues I didn't agree with, but only up to a point. There's some issues I wouldn't touch. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow
