I'm looking for opinion, but this could spark a debate.

Because it includes such varied genres (audiobooks, commercials, corporate/industrial/medical communications, animation, etc.), voice-over services at least the following industries:

1. Advertising/Marketing
2. Communications
3. Entertainment
4. Education
5. Publishing

But - if asked - how would we classify the voice-over industry? When it is not included in a list of typical industries, where would it fall?

Are we truly in a class of our own?

Fascinating, Captain.

I normally pick "Business services" if that's available since the vast majority of our clients are businesses and not consumers. "Other services" if the business option isn't available.

So, classification aside, does that mean I don't need this pole to do voice-over?

I agree with Amy. Given that list of five choices, I select "Advertising/Marketing."

Yep, business services, actors, advertising/marketing, creative services... we do fall into all of those categories. I'll just shoot an arrow and see where it lands. And, when all else fails, it'll be 'other.'

Many thanks.

Advertising/marketing... a no-brainer.

Are we not selling in one way or another in 90% of what we do?

Not necessarily. You may but most of my work is e-learning or audiobooks. I do a number of youtube style infomercials these days but that's about as close as I come on a daily basis. So while 90% of what I DO is selling myself, 90% of my business has nothing to do with advertising/marketing.

A good question and something interesting answers.
