Yes you do. Wow, and here I thought this was all brand new news. That's the interweb for you.
It promises to be a handy site. It looks like it's kind of got a wikipedia mindset where you can volunteer put in pronunciations of words you know or you could do mispronunciations to screw everyone up.
It is a handy little site though. _________________ j.s. gilbert

I've been using Forvo for some time now but I'm getting about a 20% success rate at finding what I need. You can submit a query for words they don't have, but it can take several days to never to get an answer.
I also try pronouncenames.com but they're a little short on obscure people and places too.

Still, it's a good thing to have this thread show up from time to time, yes?
Thanks all around! _________________ Dangerous.

I get a little frustrated with a lot of those sites. It seems the word (or name) I'm looking for is rarely to be found. One thing I decided to try and which has worked – especially for proper names is a search on YouTube. I'll go there and enter a search for "_____ _____ interview".
If I get lucky, I'll find a clip with the person being interviewed and often it's the person himself talking to the camera and saying his name. If the host says the interviewee's name, I tend to assume that they've discussed the pronunciation before cameras roll. Either way, at least I'm a step ahead of where I was before I searched. |

Thanks JS, and Moe too -- good reminder
Thanks Don for the YouTube tip. I often find myself going there when I need to know how a new piece of kit works. There's often somebody there who's done some kind of tutorial on it.
cheers all... _________________ Intuit and do it!

Naturally, CourVO would use Forvo.
I blogged about Forvo and other word pronunciation sites HERE.
Thanks for the reminder JS!
