There was an audition over at Voice 123 earlier this year for a joint called Tasty Cow and it had some "tongue and Cheek" writing. Albeit for my tastes the kind of tongue and cheek one might get from some guy that lives in a shack in the Ozarks and is holed up with a generator and 4,623 vcr tapes of Hee Haw.

Of course, I'm not so sure what one expects when they name their "restaurant" Tasty Cow.

I'm not sure if having one's dinner introduced to them by name is a great idea. At the very least, after hearing their spot, I'm pretty sure one would think about turning vegetarian

Here is a link to the for real radio spot that was produced

and here is the link to the version I did. Let's see which you like better

Back when we lived in MA, we used to cringe at the Bernie & Phyl's Furniture Store ads -- the jingle was awful, Bernie & Phyl both did on-camera and VO,

But their competition was Jordan's Furniture -- commercials done by equally marble-mouthed owners, the brothers Barry and Whats-his-name -- and Bob's Discount Furniture -- commercials done by "owner" Bob Kaufman, possibly even more horrible than the others. New England seems to have a longstanding tradition of furniture and appliance store owners doing their own crappy commercials.

Ask someone in Western Mass about Del Padre or Manny's. Ugh.

Lee, Oh yes, I remember the Jahdin's ads, and the Bob's ads...

It must be inherant in furniture store/mattress store owners to want to star in their own commercials.

In the early 90's Phoenicians were treated to the beautiful melodic tones of a man named Howard Cassette of Cassette's Furniture Store. His commercials were almost as good as as crazy Gary there, and it seemed like there was a new one every week.

I love Larry and Irwin of Sit and Sleep in So. Cal. though

And who can forget the Ralph who was later memorialized in "Ralph's Spoilsport Motors"?

Firesign Theatre was one of my early voice-acting influences. Many times around our house you'll hear something like, "Now, let's stand him on his head" or "It's a beaut" "No, it's a mound" "And a right purty one, too!"
