I've been using my trusty RE-20 for a long time, but I decided I wanted to at least explore a little.
So after listening to some mic comparisons and asking around a bit, I thought I can't go wrong with trying Harlan Hogan's new MXL. And I gotta say, I don't think I went wrong. This mic is really impressive.
For $250, I am more than pleased. It fits my voice nicely without getting too boomy and adds some high end crispness that I wasn't getting from the RE-20. I still love my RE-20, but this is a nice addition.
Oh...and you also get two mounts, a nice hard plastic case, a Marshall mic cable and a small pouch.
Well done, Harlan. _________________ http://toddvoice.com/ |

When I was testing out the Don LaFantaine VO Lab, George had the Hoga mic on the stand. I was surprised by the mic. It's quite good for the price. _________________ The Blog:

I've only heard good things about how that mic sounds. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

One of my friends from my radio days has decided he wants to try his hand at VO and bought one of Harlan's mics with a MicPort Pro. The day he got it he plugged it in and, even before he had a chance to experiment with settings, he recorded a sample and sent it to me. It sounded great. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Absolutely love the sound of the Hogan Mic. As soon as my jar fills up, I will be auditioning this baby. _________________ jonahcummings |

BTW has anyone done any (engineering or other) comparisons with the MXL 909?
Just curious if they are related. |

I just can't imagine being impressed by the mic. I've bought mics that are suppose to sound like "the real thing" but never have. A signature mic? Hmmm. |

I can tell you, I've worked with a lot of microphones - Yes Sir, A LOT.
When I first spoke into this mice I was impressed. I'm not going to say it's the best mic, but in the under $400 price rage of mics, this is a nice sounding mic. _________________ The Blog:

I can only come to one conclusion: the VO 1-A lives up to all the accolades it has received so far, and then some. My voice finally has the warmth and depth I had been searching for. I now have that extra oomph that enhances my sound without distorting it.
When I first looked at the visualization of my voice on Sound Forge, the difference in the wave pattern compared to my old mic, was absolutely remarkable.
The VO-1A produces a rich, natural sound at an amazing price. Need I say more? _________________ Paul Strikwerda

My wife and I recently returned from a cross Canada drive and of course I needed some portable recording equipment. I bought a good lap top with lots of RAM, Harlan's VO1-A mic, Mic Port Pro and I already had his port-a-booth. I was so impressed with the mic I bought 3 more as giveaways in my recent sale on CommercialVoices.com.
I know the winners are going to be ecstatic over the prize. I may even do it again when I have my January Sale.
Cheers,

At www.philipbanks.com we are often asked by people who hire us for TV Promos, TV commercials "Tell me www.philipbanks.com are you available, largely at union rates for voice over work?" We of course reply "At www.philipbanks.com as a voice over artist (seats at all prices) yes we are and here at www.philipbanks.com we only use the finest over priced German mics."
"What about Harlan Hogan's mic?"
"Well we at www.philipbanks.com would never endorse any mic designed by an ex WWWF wrestler" |
