Unplug it for ten minutes then plug it back in and see what happens. I had this happen more than once.

If you get zilch, no post, no fan, nothing? Power Supply. Be hopeful that's the case. Super easy to remedy.

Oh man, that was taken the wrong way for sure! haha Now that I read it more in context, I sound like a douche! haha

No dig meant. I have worked with mac since Adam had a house cat, and love everything about them. I have worked on PC, and I admire those that do.

I had an issue with my computer. It would turn on, but the screen melted to black as soon as it was done booting. I called Apple and we walked through a few steps and got no place fast. I brought it to a certified tech that they directed me to, and the next day I had the computer back in the studio working and the best part was that it was all free. (Applecare $183 dollars gets you three years of coverage from the date you buy your computer.)

The tech is the main reason I like Mac so much. Plus, if I can't click and drag I am all thumbs!

thanks deebs! yes - i DO have a g5 power pc (which btw - i just replaced the super-drive in after it took a poop last week) and - good news - the motherboard in my pc is under warranty - so after i upgrade to the new 8gb quad-core asus board with the i5 processor and hackintosh it - i'll be able to run win7, snow leopard and ubuntu all on one box - then build another computer with the left overs!

should be off the "b" system by the end of the week!

i've been dual-platform for about 10 years - so i know there are pros & cons to all systems.

Amen on the power conditioners. The power is very unstable in my neck of the woods and I have replaced two power supply units due to power surges. It will fry the motherboard as well and the damn thing does not need to be on. I now unplug everything if I am away for any length of time.

Please note: There is a big difference between a Power Strip and a Power Conditioner.

The Furmans and most of the others you find out there for around 200.00 or so is just a big surge supressor for the most part. They do clean up the power but it is not the same. Be sure to look at what you buy. Some of the stuff can get a little pricey but you have to ask yourself how much is your equipment etc worth.

ok - i want something that is going to provide a constant level of power to my equipment, protect against spikes and ALSO protect me during short brown outs.

is this still a furman product? or something else?

please be specific in your answers.

use the back of the form if necessary.

I'm not an expert in this and I have not played one on TV, but I have a fairly big APC brand UPS unit which stores over 20 minutes of juice for all of my studio equipment. In theory everything is running off of its continuous feed and not directly from my power company. In fact once a week or so I see or hear it chirp and kick in for a few seconds for what I'm guessing is a brown down (but not out) or spike or some such. So I'm guessing my power is being "conditioned"?? I'm being protected at all times?
