"Basically I will give you a pdf which is 27 pages double spaced, I need you to record yourself reading it and provide me with a MP3 version of it Please be sure to sound interesting when you read it and not monotone like a robot.
Its around 27 pages of double spaced, its very easy stuff to read. Each page takes around 30 seconds to read. I know as I read them but im a man so I cant record this otherwise i would do it myself.
As this wont take longer than 30 minutes to do. I will pay $20 for 1 hour to cover any additional time beyond that 30 mins. So you are getting paid $20 for the hour."
OMG -- where do I sign up?????? |

Ugh.
I recently had a request for a quote from somebody who told me the work would "just take a few minutes". I wrote back
Quote: | Dear Mr. N.,
Thank-you for writing, and for sending the draft of your script. The finished product will run about eleven minutes. Did you have a budget in mind for this project?
Regards, |
I never heard back, but I can't imagine the circumstances under which I would want to work with somebody with a "just a few minutes" attitude. |

I would've been tempted to record a page and speed it up to :30, then send it back with a note saying it was hard to get it to 30 seconds, so I'm going to need another 14 cents per page. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

And these peeps tend to be so authoritative & demanding for these ***your choice of expletive*** jobs, don't they!
I got a similar email..'put some personality in it'... I declined to waste any time in discussion with the party & bowed out...but maybe I should have said, 'put some more money on the table cheapskate'.
ya gotta laugh! _________________ Intuit and do it!

Absolutely!! If you've ever checked out elance or guru or odesk....these are typical terms to describe their projects and they usually want to pay $5 or $10 per hour..... It's just amazing!!! _________________ SaVoa #08019

That is so true. "It will only take a few minutes of your time" usually means that they have no idea what they're doing, they don't respect our profession, and that the budget is about $20. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

It must be his brother that posted a job on one of the pay-to-play sites, This was in my box today.
The job poster has received 45 auditions so far.
JOB Facts:
1. VO talent who would like to receive between $150 and $250 per month for reading commercials for a radio group. (Salt Lake City).
2. 3 to 5 sixty or thirty-second scripts in a day (some with a 2 to 4 hour turn around)
3. No more than 30 reads per month
4. To be paid; you will submit an invoice and W-9 at the beginning of the month and receive payment within 30-45 days.
My figures indicated that his would be $ 8.33ea. at $ 250 a month, and
$ 5.00 ea. at $ 150.00 a month.
Now assume that for the 5 spots a day you set a side 1 hour for this Client Mon-Fri, for the 4 weeks in the month. This would be 20 hours at $ 12.50 and taking the $ 150.00 offer, would be $ 6.25 per hour, less than minimum wage in the US.
I think $ 900.00 would be a good start! But I have been sniffing Ampex tape particles for the last few hours. _________________ -----

That's probably more than the advertisers are paying for the air time.
