...i wish i had video to prove it, but part of the past week's whirlwind was a political VO which had me looking twice to make sure i had it right.

it was FOR something.

it talked about the candidate, not his opponent. it listed in detail the things the candidate had already done. it mentioned the things the candidate hoped yet to do.

in fact, i don't remember it even mentioning the opponent.

i took special care to compliment the writer/director on the other end of the ISDN line.

...i just hope the spot doesn't doom the guy who had the guts to approve it.

this politico CLEARLY doesn't get it!

here's how it's supposed to work:

1) rowell voiceoverizes political attack ad
2) bruce voiceoverizes a response/retaliation ad for opponent
3) rowell's candidate elevates attack to defcon 3
4) bruce's candidate responds in kind
5) repeat steps 3 & 4 until rowell & bruce are independently wealthy

And this year because of the new freedom corporations have to spend on the elections I've done a bunch of ads just lambasting the person in office, and asking the listener to call the legislator and tell them "to stop killing jobs", or some such. No mention of the person(s) running opposite. The spot is paid for by some nebulous sounding "coalition".

I don't know...I like working, but.......

Of course these campaigns are nothing like the ones of 200 years ago. People would slander opponents openly and there was no way or time to fact check or refute. Of course do voters fact check today's ads either? Don't think so.

The spots that are sticking out to me are the ones like you just did Rowell. We have one or two in Chicago that are doing that and it truly makes me pay attention.

yeah - not like the good old days!

... Wielding the cane he used for injuries he incurred in a duel over a political debate in 1840, Brooks entered the Senate chamber and attacked Sumner at his desk, which was bolted to the floor. Sumner's legs were pinned by the desk so he could not escape the savage beating. It was not until other congressmen subdued Brooks that Sumner finally escaped.

I say put 'em all on Jerry Springer and let 'em duke it out (their mistresses and pool boys, too).

Sumner got pretty badly messed up in this attack. He required three years of physical therapy to recover. The good news is, he got a tunnel named after him.

The recorded robo-calls are bad enough. We got one the other night that was over-acted, piss-poorly written, and amazingly enough (I know, I know), had some really obvious mistakes in it.

Such is the political climate today that some candidates' scriptwriters aren't bothering to fact-check things.

I am SO happy we have already voted and can just hang up on these simpletons.
