|
|
After researching 703, used in many booths, I found it contained formaldehyde, phenol which I personally didn't want within the confines of my booth.
I found this product and wanted to include the link here in case anyone is looking for an eco-friendly option. Please note that I have not tested the acoustic properties of this - it's 3lb glass fiber board, like 703, and personally I was happy that if the properties were similar to 703 and didn't contain formaldehyde I'd be happy.

Most of Johns Manville's products are formaldehyde free. I used InsulShield in my booth and for my mixing room treatments. Yet another tip from our friend, Mike, who is so full of valuable info. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Hey Fore!
The numbers on the Knauf material is a fine option.
Insul-Shield comes in both Plane and Formaldehyde flavors. Insul-Shield perform a little better in the lower frequencies. _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong. |

Well, I DID have to explain to my daughter that it wasn't cotton candy. _________________ Joe Szymanski

Have you considered acoustical cotton? I'm not a big fan of chemicals or stuff that's dangerous to work with, either. Before I got into VO, I made a media room and treated the walls with acoustical cotton. I now record in this same room. You can find sound absorption coefficients here:

When you order just ask. My supplier here only carries the Formaldehyde Free
The UltraQuiet Acoustic Cotton Panels are ridiculously expensive.
On a studio build the owner wanted to be "Green" and use cotton in the walls and for treatment. When he saw the price difference and how much green it was going to cost, he suddenly was not too concerned anymore about being green. _________________ The Blog:
