Well, not really....
there is a plug in available that digitally emulates most of the world class VO mics out there...Just dial in the mic you're using, then dial in your fav mic. It models the characteristics of the mic you choose

Extremely useful for those people who like one mic for vowels, one for consonants, reading a script requiring an actor start (U87), announcer middle (RE-oSpeedwagon) and a promo punch end (Web enabled Sennheiser MKH416 2.0) |

I got this mail shot from Antares as well. Actually, it was the last one I'll get from them as they are now honoured with being sent straight to the junk folder.
For $99 they'll make your mike sound like (insert über-mic here). Still in beta is the additional module that will let you dial-in the U87, and then dial in the voice talent of your choice.
I have a cunning plan... Philip, your days are numbered. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I played with the mic modeler several years ago. It's interesting in some aspects. Will it replace a Neumann? Probably not. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Looks like it's at least worth a demo! _________________ Best regards,

color me skeptical.
Or maybe just a purist, but I would rather have just one or two good mics at most. |

I'm skeptical too, but it might be fun to play with the demo. I wonder if this would be a useful tool to help determine how my voice would sound on a variety of mics. That would be cool! But I have my doubts about how accurate it really is. _________________ Best regards,

One of my biggest peeves are software companies that insist on you jumping through their paranoia hoops. Back in the '80s I had to use a serial-port hardware dongle with my Voyetra sequencing software... and here we go with Antares. To quote from their web site:
"Mic Mod authorization requires an iLok USB smart key and the ability to access ilok.com (on any computer)."
I know that they are not the only ones, and I doubt the practice will go away, but these restrictive software authorization methods are a pain in the proverbial. I dumped a copy of Cubase half way through their tortuous process. Many people (including me) are of the opinion that these restrictions (including DRM etc.) only inconvenience honest users... anyone who wants to play without paying will always find a way.... and yes, I do buy my software! _________________ Bish a.k.a. Yes, I hate it too. But I do have an iLok already from my purchase of the Waves Musican's plug ins (which I never actually use!). _________________ Best regards,

Oh, cool. So I can dial in the Labtec mic that came with my Soundblaster AWE64 and make it come out sounding like a U-87? What a country! _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

the mic you are using to record has to be on the list in order for it to work right, is how I understand it..
so pick up a used sm57 an give it a whirl. Don't think a Labtec would be on there. |

This has been around at least since 2004. Genius way to package an EQ plug-in. _________________ Joe Szymanski

The Mic Modeler plugin has been around for quite some time. It was handy for remixes. Not sure why I would use it for VO, but in music it came in handy - especially when you had a small studio and both the lead and background vox's were done on the same mic.
i remember, before iLok - Waves used an question/answer authorization. A real pain in the arse.
