Today was one of those days when I looked around my work space, my lovely studio, and thought, "how the heck has this worked for so long?" Then I thought, "How can I make it better?" Then I thought, "Look - something shiny!!"
In order to not make this a blog post I'm just going to keep it short: snow this morning was FUN! Loved it. Then it turned wet and rainy but it couldn't put a damper on the sessions ahead. My best buddy was coming in to record a live interview with Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. The call came in on time. I answered all, "Dandysound Studios. This is Mandy." Ian was all, "Yes, I'm calling to talk with Greg Sarni." "Oh, yes, " I say, "Please hold while I patch you into the recording booth." Heee, I love being all professional like. Until I put down the receiver, not on the shelf as I do about once a day for my own sessions. Nope, I hung it back up neatly in it's cradle.
He called back and apologized for the disconnect. EEK! Greg said, "No problem, Mandy did it." Nice. Thanks best friend. Remind me to add coal to your stocking in a months time.
Greg's interview was great and Ian seemed to really enjoy the chat. I was shocked at their bonding (hello, Ian, that's my friend not yours!) but thrilled that Greg got the stuff he needed for his radio show. The only problem beyond my hanging up on this iconic man is that the mic Greg was on kept cutting out. Turned out to be the channel on the board. 13 years with said channel, said mic, some major recordings on my end without a problem, and I fail my buddy. Eh, that's what post production is for, right? And a reminder that 13 years is a long a$$ time so clean that stuff up already.
At the end of the day I can only shrug and realize this is what I live for. Tomorrow I'm going to make changes to the chain. The day after I'll make changes to the booth. But tonight I'm going to smile and be grateful that I get to do this. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Mandy,
I love your stories. I too have to pinch myself from time to time to make sure I'm not just dreaming. What a truly delightful way to make a living. _________________ Be well,

Ian Anderson is (one of) my hero(es)!
And Mandy, you are a wonderful storyteller. You made my day. _________________ Dangerous.
