I've been happily using Sound Forge for many years now, currently on version 9 on a Windows XP machine I assembled myself. It's fast, quiet, reliable. But in the next year or so I will want to replace it with either a Win 7 PC (so I can keep my Sound Forge), or perhaps a Mac running Adobe Audition or similar audio program.

I'm hoping that someone with knowledge of both Audition and Sound Forge can tell me if they can do pretty much the same thing equally well. I like the tools I have in SF, such as Wave Hammer. Are Audition's tools just as good or better?

I currently bounce between Sound Forge, Audition and ProTools..they all have different strengths and weaknesses....It would be lovely to be very proficient in one aHobo Tounge as opposed to pretty proficient in all.

Out of all of them, I would say Audition 1.5 is the most streamlined and quick aHobo Tounge in terms of not getting in the way..

The strength of ProTools is that it is extremely loaded and will probably be more than you will ever need.. The drawback is, I think it takes a little more time than the others to get quick and proficient with it, so that it's not in the way

the other two (SF and AA) are pretty evenly matched. SF has the edge with Wavehammer, but AA seems easier for me to navigate than SF.

I used Vegas Pro around 10 years ago and really liked it. Then went to Cool Edit Pro, now I'm on Adobe Audition 3.0 and like the added features. I actually bought Sound Forge 9, but sent it back after finding out I couldn't do multi-track projects with it. Our good friend Bob Souer helped me out with that. The confusion was the info says Sound Forge will do multi-track (meaning you can record multiple tracks at a time), but you couldn't mix them down. I think you had to get Vegas for that. So that's why I ended up going with Adobe Audition. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the way I understand it.

John,

You're right. Sound Forge 9 and 10 are "multi-channel" but not multi-track. So you can do surround sound editing, but not multi-track mixing with them. Of course, I never use those functions. I'm pretty much always just editing my single voice track.

Bob,
I do about half and half, voice over and imaging production, so I needed that feature. Thanks again for your help a while back!

Thanks guys! I expect I'll be able to download a trial version when the time comes. But it does sound like I'd be equally happy running AA on a Mac as I am running Sound Forge on a PC.
