Hey all,
I'm on the ropes about these 2 audio devices. I am using a Macbook Pro and I just record voice overs. I am looking for a device that CAN work without drivers.
I really like the CI1 cause of the line inputs and 2 XLR as opposed to the 1 on FT.
I also own a M-Audio Mobilepre and while M-Audio suggest you install drivers, it is recognized under mac osx and works with the drivers. |

I have an M-Audio Fast Track II for my PC- actually, I only use it when I take my netbook somewhere, because it's so small and portable.
I don't use Macs, so take this for what it is worth- but with PCs, it's better to use the drivers supplied by the manufacturer rather than the generic ASIO drivers because they're optimized for the device. I assume a similar condition obtains for Macs.
Even though it works with the drivers already on the system, I've found I get better results (and much lower latency) with the right drivers. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Thanks for the quick reply and info.
I always use the drivers. But my reason for it working without them is this: I just had to get rid of my original Mbox, because it is not supported by Win7 or Snow Leopard. I loved that box but Avid stop supporting future drivers for it.
If this box wasn't dependent on the digi drivers then I could still be using it. The Mobilepre works great without the drivers.
I am curious about Fast Track USB and Steinberg CI1 owners and what their take on these boxes are...
Thanks again cyclometh! |

In case any one cares, I bought the CI1 and this is my first impression.
I chose the CI1 over the Fast Track cause its 20 bucks cheaper, the CI1 is supposed to be a better box and I decided to use the M-Audio Mobilepre (2nd gen) on the go and leave the CI1 connected to my home system.
The CI1 is bigger & heavier than the Mobilepre.
The CI1 does not work without the drivers, the Mobilepre does.
The Mobilepre and FT come with pro tools SE - (Good)
CI1 comes with Wavelab - (Good) & Sequel - (wack IMO!)
Both boxes are great. I like the M-Audio's but the CI1 is a great deal for $100! |
