I have an international client who refuses to use Paypal and suggested Moneybookers. Anyone used it? Like? Hate?

Is this a Russian client by any chance?

I have a Russian (potential) client that wanted to use this service, & I looked into it, but it would not allow me to set up an account where I could download the money from a MoneyBookers account to my bank account like PayPal does....weird....so I canceled the MoneyBookers account I had created, contacted my (potential) client & they agreed to use PayPal if/when the need to use my services arose.

Liz, you add your bank account just like you do with Paypal. And they're a preferred provider of eBay so that lends a bit of credibility.

I've not heard of them, Jeff. Why not bank wire?

Because it's a royal pain in the butt. Plus the fees can get hefty.

Find yourself a credit union - many (not all) allow free incoming international wire transfers. Open up a checking account just for the transfers. You'll probably have to open a share (savings) account in order to open the checking - which is perfect because now you have a separate account into which you can transfer all of the money that gets wired into the checking.

That beats the $200 my bank nicked me for on a $2000 payment. Of course the payment came from Kashmir, not one of the most stable places in the world.

With wire, apparently, it's not just your bank that charges. My credit union offers free wire transfers, but warns that other banks along the way may charge.

End result. this thing was settled by hiring me through oDesk of all places and using their system. He even paid the 15% oDesk fee.
