I spent the last few days re-grouping, planning the year, and re-reading a great book. I thought I'd share some pearls of wisdom from some of the greats in our business. BTW, I sure do miss the "Don."
"A background in life, on the other hand, is indispensable."
"...it is life experience that colors every reading."
"A thunder throat is helpful only if you know how to use it. Simply being able to make a glass vibrate by speaking does not assure you a place in the voice-over pantheon."
Don LaFontaine
Secrets of Voice-Over Success
"Once I've identified the emotion, I try to go there in my head. It helps make the read real. Don't think about how your voice sounds. If you have the emotion, the voice will follow."

A guy comes home early from work one day and discovers his wife in bed with his best friend, an actor.
Upon seeing them lying in bed the man, shocked and horrified, screams out "What are you doing?"
The actor doesn't miss a beat and says "I'm in an upcoming episode of CSI, I've got a supporting role in a local production of Joseph's Technicolor Dream Coat and I have a callback for a Pepsi v.o." _________________ j.s. gilbert

Ah yes, another career cut short...
If only he had been cast in a revival of "Hello. I must be going." _________________ I'm still...

I think this is the perfect thread to turn 2000 in.
I miss Don, too. _________________ Bobbin Beam
