I'm not usually one to toot my own horn here among so many veterans of the industry, but I was cast as an actual historic figure (Brig. General Robert S. Foster) for Robert Redford's period drama "The Conspirator" coming to theaters in April 2011.

The film premiered to positive reviews at the Toronto Film Festival last year, but the first trailer was just released recently:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSvG_gk2mZU

And I got a speaking line too...er, if getting to say "Aye!" in a scene counts.

I spotted myself five times (tho very briefly) in the trailer, which makes me more excited than ever to see it now. Around the 2:08 mark in the trailer, I love the composition of the shot of the generals at the table, and I'm seated at the end of the table there. There's another quick full view of me standing behind the other generals seated in the courtroom.

I've always enjoyed historic films set in the Civil War period, but getting to see yourself in one...I have to say it's pretty dang cool.

I worked on this film for a total of 3 weeks between Nov-Dec 2009 in Savannah, and was seated next to Robert C. Treveiler (The Mist) and Colm Meaney (Layer Cake, Law Abiding Citizen) for the courtroom scenes. I also got to meet Danny Huston, Stephen Root, Tom Wilkinson and Robin Wright -- all actors whose work I've admired, particularly Robin Wright from my all-time favorite film "The Princess Bride."

And it was by far the best experience I've had on a film shoot, and I've worked on a number of productions over the last 2 years. Robert Redford was very kind, soft-spoken and amiable -- confirming everything I've heard said about him.

Here's a gallery of images from the shoot -- normally, it's a huge no-no to take photos on a shoot, but we were encouraged to do so to help spread the word about the film (and as long as we didn't take any pics on the actual set):

I grew my beard in over a 3-month period just for this role.

That's fantastic Craig! Remember the movie being filmed here and avoiding the traffic jams whenever possible Wink City Council just turned down the SyFy Channel wanting to trample around in one of the bigger downtown cemeteries. The next movie being filmed here begins February 14th.

Sometimes they let you keep street clothes worn in the movie but I'll bet the costumers hung on to that one. Too bad.

Cool beans, dude. One word in a Redford movie is worth at least 7 or 8 in other movies. Congratulations!

I guess our job now is to see if we spot any cameras during the film! I don't think they had them back in them thar days.

Well, there is someone playing Civil War photographer Matthew Brady in the film. Wink As I recall, he was the props master for the film and earned himself a SAG bump when it was suggested that he play the role.

One scene I'm in involves a slow tracking shot of the Military Tribunal generals posing for Brady. Redford wanted to recreate an actual historic photograph on film. I have high hopes that scene doesn't get cut, because Redford told us we'd all get "good face time" in it.

Except for the day we shot at the prison fort (forget the name at the moment), I was only in the courtroom scenes and they were all filmed in a warehouse down the street from the mall (forget the mall name at the moment). Never saw much traffic from those two locations, but I heard it backed up traffic when they were shooting the Ford's Theatre scenes downtown.

Good for them. I was a little weirded out when I was told we were walking over unmarked graves in the fort by one of the extras who was a local author and historian on the Civil War.

Yep. I've submitted to be a stand-in on it, but I'm kinda hoping I'm not asked to come down for an interview. Too much expense involved in the commute to Savannah, but I do hope to work a couple days on "Savannah" as an extra anyway. I believe they're holding an open call this weekend for the film too.

mcm said in the "Post a Recent Pic of Yourself" thread that she was in love a little bit after I posted that picture there. I'm hoping she's gotten over me by now. Laugh
