I think that you should follow Mr Banks lead and come up with a "soundtag (boop >cue mysterious eastern musical trills<)" and create an unpronounceable name for your branding tags.

I have a friend who comes up with tags that are left of center and anything but normal.

"Quirky" has become the new "warm" which replaced "approachable" which replaced "everyperson."

Don't know how successful the aforementioned friend his but when she comes up with tags, she goes to a different list so as not be clumped up with everyone else. Since she is a woman rather than list her style as "strong," she goes with "b*tchy;" instead of "warm," she goes with "oversexed." Again, I'm not sure how successful she is in her tag searches, but suffice it to say that of a creative director is looking for a b*itchy, oversexed style read, she will likely stand out in a very small crowd.

I'm pretty sure that branding isn't nearly as important as walking through a door and asking someone directly how you can make their day better.

I do think branding is important. But it has to be the right branding. Not branding for the sake of branding. Your talent and personality are your brand. Start there. That's established on the demo. Build the visual brand around who you are with the font, style, and colors of your website. Forget a slogan, at least for now. If you do include it, allow it to come organically. If you can't think of one, leave it off. For now. I'm seeing more and more newbies spending more time on a cute slogan for their brand when they should have been spending more time honing their skills. Bottom line is, if the talent isn't on the demo the slogan is moot.

I noticed that Ed Victor has re-branded himself for 2011. He's no longer "The Big Gun. He's now called............

wait for it.............

"He's The Big Gun" Clever eh? I wonder who gave him that title?
