Parade magazine came out with their annual salary survey. Among the 50 or so respondents shown, was a voice actress.

Let's see what you think.

I like your essay.

I also think it's nice to see an unvarnished telling of the "pro" VO story.

Great post, JS. Scientific sampling or not, that should be something of a wake-up call for fledgling voiceoverists-to-be.

Thank goodness they selected her and not someone uber-successful like Joe Cipriano. After the saga of Ted Williams left thousands of people thinking all you need is a deep voice and to be discovered, the last thing the world needs is to think all VO people are pulling down gazillions of dollars.

I was scratching my head about the obit writer, as well. In the not so high paying world of newspaper writing/reporting, one of the first things they assign to the most entry-level newsroom employees is crafting obituaries.

When I started at a newspaper (true story) I was a typesetter and pasteup artist. Writing obits would have been a step up in pay, but at least I got to work with headphones on most of the day. Laugh

JS, that was fantastic. I had the same thought about 99 cents per when I read the Parade info but you said it way funner like.

Nicely written JS.

Please continue to bust bubbles. Those who want to continue to work their butts off to make a living doing this thing we call VO will make it happen sans bubbles. The others just get soap in their eyes and continually bump into things....

Like I have said, J.S. is the Dr. Phil (or maybe Gordon Ramsey?) of
voiceover.

I lived in Texas for 2 years, and am from Kentucky originally. So believe me y'all I appreciate a straight shooter!
