Is expecting a simple "received your file/audition" too much to ask for each audition submission? I can understand it wouldn't be feasible for P2Ps due to the massive amount of submissions.... but agents? Even though they have their own cattle calls...the list should be manageable enough to routinely acknowledge receipt. Only a couple of my agents give me that courtesy. Last week one of the one's that never acknowledges sent out a reminder to everyone the due date. I asked if they received mine and they said no....I resent and asked them to please acknowledge receipt..only then did I receive a return "email received".

I wonder how much time is spent in the booth that doesn't make it to anyone's ears are even make it to the requester's inbox.

With most submissions I hear nothing to acknowledge receipt, but I've gotten so adept at forgetting about the audition that if they do acknowledge it, I have to stop and think what they're referring to. I actually would just as soon not get an acknowledgement, unless they've listened to it and want to write back and say "that was dope!" Best to move on.

By using the term "Cattle call", the client waves the right to a human courtesy of a response... unless you are of the subfamily Bovinae.

If my agent listens to what I send him and thinks, "That was a dope," I'd just as soon he keeps it to himself. Shocked

My experience is all over the map on responses. My original agent always responds and often gives a nice comment on the work. A couple of production houses often respond with a hand typed thanks, and another agent uses an email auto-respond to every submission. The rest......crickets. I do get occasional work from the others, so the mail must have gone through.

If I have time to worry about it, I worry about emails not getting received a tiny bit.

I don't want a reply from Cattle call auditions unless I've booked the job. Don't need the extra crapola in my inbox.

Actually snail mail is best IMHO. Too many e-mails end up in Junk including auditions. You can count on USPS delivering your "tangible" package-now whether or not it has been listened to is another story; most manila envelopes get tossed into the office black hole. If you desire to get noticed then stand out in your packaging and force the issue. Get creative. Works every time. Especially if you are unsolicited.

The agents and production houses I submit auditions to have dedicated email accounts for auditions, and they generate an automated reply that confirms my submission was received. Once I know they've been received, I forget 'em.

Other than that, I echo what Jeffrey said, above.

Yeah, do the auditions and forget 'em. cool

Then be happy when I've booked the gig, or encouraged when I get a "we really like you, but not for this, but how about this one instead?" type of email.
