Calling all Audition 1.5 users...I know there's some still out there Smile

I just updated from Win Vista to Win 7. Reinstalled AA just fine, got everything back up and running. However, now when I record or playback in AA there is a half-second delay in everything. Hit record - it "catches" for a half second, playback, same thing. I messed around with the cache sizes and temp disk locations, etc...in the Options->Settings->System tab, but nothing seems to help.

It's driving me up the wall, is this just Windows 7 and nothing to do about it?

It's not Windows 7, I dont have this problem and I have been using 7 for nearly two years. Since AA is a fresh install, it probably isnt the settings. I would recommend updating your soundcard drivers to the latest that are compatible with 7. Also make sure the sample rates are set right in your soundcard settings. Thats a starting point for the trouble shooting process.

*edit* one more thought is anti virus software...if you have it running, disable it and see if the problem persists

Thanks Kasey! Yeah - I don't think it's Win 7 necessarily, but something is going on.

I'm actually skipping the onboard sound card altogether and using my RME Fireface 400 for both recording and playback. After upgrading Windows, I downloaded the newest drivers specifically for Win 7 from the RME website.

I'll check out the Antivirus idea, I use Microsoft Security Essentials, free version.

Yes indeed!

It turns out when I updated the drivers for the RME Fireface it put everything back to default settings - which included a setting for "Buffer Size (latency)" set to zero. I changed it to "48 samples," which didn't appear to make a difference until I restarted the computer and now it's back to its speedy self!

Thanks guys Smile
