...but I had one of those weird moments earlier this afternoon. I was having my car's A/C checked out and recharged and I was in the garage of a mechanic whom I had never used before. There he was, hooking up hoses and explaining things, when on the radio blasting in the background, I recognized some familiar words. Odd that it wasn't my voice that registered right away, but rather the copy. It was a spot I had done a few months ago and had totally forgotten about. I don't listen to the radio much at all so I had never heard them on the air. I started laughing and the mechanic asked "what?" I just said, "Oh nothing. Something on the radio. Sorry."

For a moment I considered further explanation, but then figured he might think I could afford more work being done. Wink

Great story. I am always at a loss for how to react when, especially in a group of friends or family, and a spot comes on the TV or radio with my voice - they'll get quiet and nod and smile "Hey - that's YOU!" and I feel like a dork.

Yeah, Moe. A couple of months ago I took my son out to dinner near his college and as we were getting out of the car, he pointed to the radio and just said "Hey!". It took a moment, then I realized it was a spot I had done. We both laughed, and he said "How come that never happens when I'm in the car with my friends!".

For a moment I think I detected a bit of pride in his voice. Wink

I still get a huge kick out of hearing myself on the radio.

After more than 40 years on the radio and 25 as a booth announcer on the local TV station I've grown somewhat accustomed to hearing my voice on the air, but I still find it pretty cool when I show up someplace I wasn't expecting to hear myself. For example I'm on some spots that run in the CT NESN feed so I'll crop up in Red Sox games. And it's cool to hear oneself on a network such as History Channel or Cooking Channel.

But what's just as cool, or maybe even cooler, is seeing/hearing my friends. I've caught Peter O'Connell (and I'm pretty sure Doug Turkel, too) in Sunsetter Awning spots and my friend Jim Cutler for Sullivan Tire in those same Red Sox games, and elsewhere. I always dropped out of fast-forward on the TiVo whenever I saw the Kilz Primer spots Tom Test did last year, or Pam Tierney's Wave Petunia spots.

On my way up to Boston to meet with Peter on Thursday, I got in the car, turned on ESPN Radio on XM, and the first voice I heard was Dave DeAndrea doing a spot for Regus Office Solutions.

And this week was the season premier of one of my favorite shows, History Detectives on PBS. It's always a little extra special at the end of the show to hear the promo for the next episode voiced by Bob Souer.

I thought that was Dave! They are playing all the time here in San Diego - and he has such a unique quality to his voice.

It seems like everyone in my life hears me on the radio except me! I must listen to the wrong stations. I did have the odd experience once of hearing myself on a loop explaining cruise excursion options while I was waiting to sign up for snorkeling.

I was at the OB's for my first visit when pregnant with Harrison - our road to a healthy pregnancy was not an easy one, so we were anxious and tense. We're checking in, and all the sudden we heard me talking, My husband did a double take because I was on his right, and my voice was coming from his left. It was this doctor's office video that played on a loop, and I announced that it was Healthy Advice Women's Health Network and a few other things. It totally broke the tension and we laughed. Then I got to listen to myself at every visit.

Connie, my second home for about a month was Lowe's due to several home improvement projects. You were with me every step of the way. Wink
