Just a heads up. According to the Apogee web site, the Duet drivers (first version, not the Duet 2) will not play nicely with Lion. I was just about to make the Lion upgrade when I decided to check on my "critical" applications. Phew!

Of course, I have no idea what would have happened if I had upgraded... maybe nothing untoward, but better safe than sorry, eh?

I'm currently running:
Apogee Maestro: v1.9.14
DuetDaemon: v1.6.15
Driver: v2.6.2fc2
Firmware: v1.2

I'm pretty sure all that's the latest, and it will get you as far as Snow Leopard, and no further. Lion compatibility update expected in August according to Apogee's web site.

Cheers
peter

Always, always, always it's my understanding that it's wise to wait awhile before taking on a major upgrade of an audio operating system. Let all the bugs work out and let all the other software purveyors catch up too. Of course they give advance copies of things like "Lion" to major software companies to test and design patches, but something tells me audio editing designers are lower on the totem pole.

The Duet 1 is a dead fish. But still usable.

Read the Blog- http://voiceoveraudio.blogspot.com/2011/07/apogee-duet-2.html

Way to take one for the team there, Peter. I won't touch Lion until at least 10.7.2...

Awww... but I like it so much! Thanks for pointing me to the blog post... interesting reading. I do realize that Firewire is going to become a thing of the past with the progression USB... not to mention the dawn of Thunderbolt.

There's an interesting thread over at MacRumors that identifies a work-around for those that want to move forward with Lion. Basically, the one that seems to work is killing the DuetDaemon process from the Activity Monitor.

It's tempting... but I think I'll wait for the Apogee fix.

Cheers

YES- thanks for taking one for the team. I don't think Ill be upgrading to Lion anytime soon- I'll be loosing too many programs if I do. As a matter of fact I only upgraded to Snow Leopard just a few months ago, when Jobs announced Lion.

As good as the Duet1 is, don't hold your breath for an official fix for Apogee anytime soon if at all. (I hope I'm wrong for the sake of users like you)

Quietly, Apogee was offering a buy back of the Duet1 for anyone that had purchased one in the months before this newest release. This tells me that Apogee is washing their hands of the Duet1.

What you can do is call Apogee and ask if they are planing a driver upgrade for the Duet1. They are very up front, and will answer any questiosn you may have.

I so agree with waiting for 10.7.2. Did that with Snow Leopard and never had any problems. And it had a gig and a half of updates to install.

There's a site named RoaringApps where you can check a programs compatibility with Lion, or update/add one that isn't listed.
