......has got me wondering if anyone has found a nice, quiet fan to have with them in their studio. Preferably one that is quiet enough to run while on mic. Such a fan would be great with some of those longer reads on hot days.
Thanks Gang!! |

Bladeless Dyson looks promising but it comes with sticker shock. _________________ Gregory Best

Nope. Summer ritual - Voice quickly in heat, then turn fan on at my feet and edit slowly in cool. _________________ Moe Egan

what moe said - my studio faces east - so by 9am it's like an oven in here.
1. voice
2. shower
3. edit.

Underground basement. No need for ac in the summer, nor heat in the winter. The basement is the one thing that makes me nervous about moving. But I will. |

Ahhhhh, keeping cool in the heat is tough - I know, I'm working around a central AC, a dehumidifer, and washer & dryer! it's no problem though, I have a very nice room for recording with low ceilings; just have to shut stuff off for *the* takes, lol.
You might try wetting a t-shirt, sticking it in the freezer for a few minutes, donning it, and THEN try going after those long takes? LOL. _________________ ~Shock

On a 95+ degree day it gets pretty toasty in "the tower"...especially in the booth. I have one of those portable air conditioners since the studios only window is a casement window that won't fit a regular window-style AC unit. The drill is...AC on till recording time....shut down AC/do your takes....AC on to edit.
This afternoon it's supposed to be hot....and I have a directed 45 minute medical narration. I'll bring extra water....and a towel. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

And let's not forget - in six months the routine will be 'crank heat while catching up on paper work or other off mic duties- when it's hotter than hell, turn thermostat WAy down and voice away....when finished, turn heat back up to human levels of comfort.' I have wondered how much more oil I go through that the average bear because of this. _________________ Moe Egan

The bladeless Dyson I saw in the store yesterday looked pretty neat, but it was no quieter than any other fan of similar capacity. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Yeah.....too bad. I like and use most all of the other suggestions as it is. I shouldn't complain...I'm recording from the comforts of home!! |

Three cheers for the Mr Slim. This is my first summer with AC and I am loving every minute of it. Well worth the investment. _________________ Joe Szymanski

As I predicted before I moved to Portland, all I have to do to cool off is open the window to my studio between sessions and the cool air comes flowing in.
We've had the AC on maybe 12 days so far this summer, and thank goodness. The compressor sits right outside my studio window. No blocking that noise!
