Well, the Mic Port Pro/Rode combo wins hands down. The other two...I might be reluctant to even send auditions in with those.

I was hoping the iPhone would have been more of a viable audition alternative, but at this point I guess we'll have to sit around and wait for that iPhone 4 compatible Apogee device to be released.
The Snowflake cost me all but $25 on Ebay...guess it shows...ultra portable though...folds up into a case about the size of a thick wallet... |

I'm with Bruce. I was looking to try the Rode NTG 2 with a M . Sounds like a reasonable travel rig. Thanks for posting.
And yes, it would be nice if we could do that with the iphone, but I suppose it can't do everything. |

I listened to these on my laptop (Macbook Pro) using just the laptop speakers and, well, none of them were that bad. The Blue Snowflake was pretty thin and probably the worst of the bunch but the iPhone 4 wasn't bad at all. It actually might be useable for certain auditions like, maybe, direct e-learning clients and such (ie. folks who are almost guaranteed to be listening on crappy equipment).
I then went back and listened through monitors and the iPhone was <bleck>, the Blue wasn't bad, and the Rode/M was best. _________________ Bob Ransom

most definitely the m ... ears down.
i get the idea of smaller and smaller - but what's the big deal to throw the m and mic of choice in along with the laptop/netbook? you can then use your software of choice and have some canvas to edit on. most of the time i have my laptop with me anyway.

Yeah, you know--An audition is just that, and I think even the I-Phone file works as an audition- In NYC, many many times auditions are done with a Shure 58-- Yes, of course the MMP combo is better, but still..I say audition away--Is there a good external mic available currently for the I-phone 4? |

Right now the iRig is the only setup that allows you to plug directly into the iPhone 4, and I don't know that it's all that much better than the internal mic in the iPhone.. |
