because it's steady work. Part of a narration today:
The Kingdom Fungi is divided into seven phyla, sometimes referred to as divisions, based on reproductive characteristics. The phyla, or divisions, are Microsporidia , Chytridiomycotam Blastocladiomycota, Neocallimastigomycota, Glomeromycota, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota.
then I get to repeat all of these and explain 'em.
oh yay!

and then I opened the next document. An excerpt for your reading pleasure:
Kingdom Plantae is divided into ten divisions, or phyla. Nonvascular plants belong to phyla Bryophyta, Hepaticophyta, and Anthocerophyta. Seedless vascular plants belong to phyla Pterophyta and Lycophyta. Seeded vascular plants belong to phyla Coniferophyta, Cycadophyta, Gnetophyta, Ginkgophyta, and Anthophyta.

Whoa! If you made it through all that relatively intact, then you're a much better *scientist* than I'll probably ever be, LOL.
In the *olde* days, we'd have called that a four-blade/half grease-pencil/half roll of splicing tape session! _________________ ~Shock

I've finished a slew of reads like that for Edison Video, they pushed all the molecular chemistry my way.
Me learn all new fancy words. Speak them goodly.
now if someone can explain why aqueous is pronounced ay-quee-ous vs ah-quee-ous... I'll be happy.
aqua, water, aquaduct.. ah-qua. who pronounces it ay-qua? _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

I live in a mixed household... that's to say, I'm the Brit who speaks properly, and the others speak a bastardized version of the language (Philly and New York mix)* The daughter has her masters in public health, and is deep into pre-med biology courses at the moment. I usually run bio/medical pronunciations by her (even she raised her eyebrows when I showed her CC's original posts).
I've never seen/heard the ay-quee-ous way of doing things... it's always been ah-quee-ous. Go figure.
Which only goes to underline the fact that even if you manage to master the tongue-twisters in a scientific text, you could still be completely wrong with national, or even regional variations!
Cheers
Peter
