Please give me your best shot on who and/or what I represent and where I should focus:
Randolph's Demo Mix
I realize that you might say that it's a little too short in some places, but I'm just copying the style from pro demos.
Merci Beaucoup pour votre temp
P.S. I realize there are tricks for VO sfx, but I don't do that in this demo mix. _________________ Healing Thoughts, Healing Words, HealingMindN

I gather from listening to your mix, that you're reaching for the character voice market. I am not a character voice artist so am not the person that is qualified to critique your performance. What I can say, is this is not actually a demo, but a string of short bits edited together. This, from a purely demo standpoint should not be used as a demo. I also found from a listeners viewpoint that although accents etc were different, each bit had the same sound and feel to it, almost like they were the same character even though I could tell they were supposed to be different. For your final demo, aside from that you will need a quality professionally produced demo, I believe you should vary the cuts so each is distinctly different from the others. I will leave any further critique to all the others far more qualified than me, but I just wanted to give you my untrained ear opinion. Lots of awesome character voice talent on this forum, so whatever critique you get from them, should be seriously taken to heart and applied. Good luck to you in the character voice market. _________________ TG2

Turn everything off and by that I mean in you and find one script then read it as you whilst recording.
What you have so far is a mixed bag of how you think you should sound as a voice over or how you believe other voices sound.
One dry read, no music or effects of you telling me something. Find you first, the rest will follow.
Does that help you at all? |

OK, I thought I was being dynamic, but I knew I could be wrong. Thanks for the input. _________________ Healing Thoughts, Healing Words, HealingMindN

Let me try to understand. Your main critique is that you don't hear any of me in there. OK. Try this:

Thank you, Philip, perhaps, this is where I should focus then. _________________ Healing Thoughts, Healing Words, HealingMindN

Sorry to be negative, but none of your demo sounds like the pro demos I've heard that get people work. To be honest I only listened to the first 30 seconds or so of these two demos and the Character demo on your website. That's all I could take. You sound very self entertaining, like someone who has gotten their first microphone and recorder and is mimicking what they've heard. The hushed voice in most of these isn't necessary or salable either.
If you're really serious about advancing in this business you've got to get some decent coaching and break out of this fantasy of what marketable voice work is all about.

Thanks for your input. Interesting how you took a piece of what I wrote out of context. I never said I was perfect.
Bruce, would you be so kind as to post a sample of your work, so I can hear how it's properly done? Thanks in advance. _________________ Healing Thoughts, Healing Words, HealingMindN

And it doesn't get more proper than that. |
