A space has opened up and I'm headed to Hershey later this month for FAFFCON 3. It will be the first opportunity to meet so many of you that I feel I already know from reading your posts over the last six months.
I wasn't quite sure how to respond to the registration question "How long have you been a V/O professional. There was no selection for "a newbie with 40 years experience". I did my first "voiceover" for the first Earth Day in 1970 (when I had much more hair) and continued in radio, TV and in a long corporate career.
But I didn't make the big jump until February of this year when I put in a home studio and jumped in with both feet. If I'd known then what I know now, I would have prepared myself a little more, but that's "a bridge under the water" as they say.
The paint's not dry on the website or business cards and nobody is knocking down my door, if you don't count creditors., but for the first time in my working adult life I'm truly content. And the best thing about starting a business at 59 is you can almost stumble around until you qualify for Social Security.....but, come to think of it, that might be a "bridge under the water too".
Anyway, looking forward to finally meeting Bob Souer who has been a great encourager and role model for me (What a voice!), and to meeting many of you as well. _________________ Tom Booth

... yet another theadjack ...
OK, we're going to have to start a private club... an elite subset of Faffcon attendees ... for the ex-pats and visitors who talk with a funny accent
Cheers

Hi Tom. Nice to meet you.
Hope you have a great time at Faffcon 3.
I won't be able to attend this one but you'll love the company.
Such a great bunch of people!

At Faffcon in a couple of weeks I will be leading (yes I laughed too) a session called "First, you have to think differently". My thanks to the love of my life Nancy Wolfson for reminding me of this TV commercial which, whilst I am no where near as significant by any stretch of the imagination, says everything so well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX9GTUMh490
Of course the hidden agenda is to turn up and find an empty room so I can go to the pub. |
