When I started my journey in voiceovers, I never thought I'd end up doing this: I've just got my first gig as a live announcer for a law firm's gala award ceremony!! They have just confirmed that they would prefer me to go up there and present live, as opposed to doing the vo from home and emailing them files. I'm thrilled!

The gig isn't until November, but they will send me the scripts and all the cues in advance of the rehearsal. Nuts! Smile

Darren,

I'm sure you're going to have a great time! I've done a few of those "live announce" gigs. They always end up being a little different than planned, but you're a clever fellow. You'll have no trouble rolling with the punches.

it's always amazing to me, when i do a live event, how few "re-takes" ever become necessary...even after a previous booth job where it seems i miss something on every other line.

adrenaline?

i'm sure you'll do great. remember to post a review!

If you're not used to public speaking or performing and are worried about the jitters, you can get some gentle assistance by joining a Toastmasters club for a while. They give great tips and experience that will build your confidence.

But if you love performing live and even making a fool of yourself in front of others like some of us....never mind.

Have a good time however you get there!

Live announce gigs are fun -- you are a major part of something happening at the moment, you usually can see the audience to whom you are speaking and you just go with it -- as was said earlier -- no re-takes.
It's nothing like doing a VO.
(I was the voice of the L-A Music awards when I lived in LA in the 90s)
Enjoy Darren.

I think it is the adrenaline that keeps you focused. Even with directed sessions, I find that I make fewer "mistakes" than I do if I am self-directing.

Have fun - it is addictive. But you probably know that from doing live music.

Good gig, Darren... remember though, if you're out in front of everyone, that new suit is a tax write-off Wink

Cheers
