So this afternoon I got the same audition from two different agencies.

One agency I've been with for over ten years, and the other is relatively new. I received the audition first from the older agency, and I submitted through them.

Is there an unspoken etiquette regarding this issue? Do you let the agency that you're not going through know why...? Is that a courtesy? Or a slap in the face?

Awaiting your collective wisdom...

Smile

Kristin,

It's very common to do the audition for the agency that gets the audition to you first. And depending on the agent, they may want you to let them know if you are passing.

One of my agents will explicit ask if they want to know about a pass and doesn't need to hear anything otherwise. Another wants to know every time. Most of the rest lean one way or another. Of course, your mileage may vary. You might want to check with this new agent about whether they need to know when you're passing on an audition and if they want to know why the pass.

I send the audition to the agency who treats me like a human.

Which means I don't send them very often.

Sometimes, when I want to feel a more personal connection with the people I do business with, I think of changing my name to Undisclosed Recipients.

For the most part I'll respond to the agent that sent the audition first. The only time I might do otherwise is when the audition comes from an agent that I book most often from and have the best relationship with.

I'm amazed how rarely it happens to me these days considering the number of agents that use Voicebank, etc. I definitely submit with the agent I have the best relationship with, the one who's done the most to earn my respect.

OR OCCASIONALLY I submit to the agent who takes the smaller cut. Just a couple of times now I've noticed a considerable difference in the dollar amounts posted by different agents. Someone's not playing by the rules!

Thanks, everyone!

I think my OP was confusing, though -- I always knew which agency I would submit through, that wasn't the problem... I was just wondering if it was common practice to let the LOSING agency (because, obviously, whichever one gets MY audition is WINNING...) (<--- said like Charlie Sheen, of course...) know why I wasn't auditioning for them. I think I'll just keep mum this time... Smile

It's good to know, though, that people often choose their favorite agencies over the one that merely happened to be quickest on the draw...

Unless the agency has specifically asked for you to let them know if you're not auditioning, then you probably shouldn't. Otherwise, your email is just another one clogging up their inbox, and they probably don't care.

Remember: Agents don't represent YOU, they represent their ROSTER.
