...given the gift of a lead, and it will require a "cold call" (read as "emailed intro"). A friend of mine knows someone who is a successful owner of a marketing firm (lots of radio ads), and told me that they were once friends, and doesn't want him to know I was referred to him by her.
With that in mind, here's my question:
Since I'm a newbie to VO work, (I do have some professional demos, doing audiobooks for the local library, a few radio intros for Internet radio stations, and auditioning as much as I can), and still have a lot to learn, what is possibly a good way to introduce myself to this gentleman, who probably gets a lot of people who are professional VO artists contacting and working with him, without offending him by sending him unsolicited copies of my demos, either as email attachments or CDs? Right now, my voice is my only tool, as I'm still learning about adding FX and music.
Being a newbie, I'm developing a thick skin, so hearing "No, thank you" doesn't bother me. What would bug me is having a good lead like this, and blowing it.
Thanks for your time. |

Sal, (from your email I'm guessing that's your name?)
First, realize that even great leads don't always pan out so relax and worry less about blowing your big opportunity. If you keep moving forward, you'll have lots of times when you'll get to worry about blowing your (next) big opportunity.
Second, maybe the thing to do is to contact this person and ask how they would prefer to receive your demos? Simple and straight to the point is often the best plan.
Third, if this person has a website, look around for clues about how best to make this approach. _________________ Be well,

Thanks, Bob. He does have a website. I will make a leap of faith, and reach out to him. I'll let one and all here know what comes of it. |

exactly what Bob said on all counts, of course. I'd like to reiterate that you do NOT send the demo on first contact. Send a query and let him decide how he wants to hear you, if at all.
And please don't quote entire messages in your reply, thanxmuchKbye _________________ Jeff
